Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine August ’25 Welcome
Letter from the Editor
With the height of summer upon us, I hope you can enjoy the longer daylight while we still have it and the wildlife around us. In fact, later in the evening on the middle day of this year (2nd July) I saw several roe deer on the move in the countryside; just beautiful. You’ll find plenty of information and events in your Flyer to take you through these school holiday and summer days.
Events include Hertford Council’s Summer Children’s Trail, in partnership with the Secret Society of Hertford Crafters, as well as Ware Town Council’s Summer Concert Series with live performances on the back lawn of Ware Priory. There are also lunchtime concerts at St Mary’s Church in Ware with the “churchyard café” open for refreshments and at St Leonard’s Church, visitors are welcome to explore and purchase tea and cake on the 31st August. All the details of these are in your magazine.
Other events include an intriguing sounding Hertford Guided Walk (25th August) and the final Ware Guided Town Tours of this season (3rd August and 7th September). I’ve enjoyed the local guided walks I have previously been on. In Hertford Heath, as well as a new Teddy bear picnic (17th August) there’s the Fayre-ly Big Picnic (30th August) and preloved clothes sale. Plus the regular repair shop (17th August) and the litter pick (23rd August). Both town libraries are running the Summer Reading Challenge; still time to get involved! There is also an animal themed activity in Ware library (20th August), as well as other regular events at both libraries. Exhibitions and children’s activities are taking place at Ware and Hertford museums, in addition to what sounds like a fascinating talk at Ware Museum (19th August).
In group and charity news we hear from Renée Friend BEM, Isabel Hospice Ambassador, who tells us that over £1000 was raised for their charity from afternoon teas that they provided at an open garden event in Bengeo. The Rotary Club of Hertford has launched its Breakfast Club and shares an update about recent events. They are now unable to run the Rotary Family Fun Day at Hertford Castle on the 24th August, but hope to next year. The Ware and District Photographic Society updates us on their group and warmly invites photographers of all abilities to find out more. The Society holds meetings from September to May. Ware FC shares sad news about the death of club captain Louis Rose. Louis had two spells with Ware during which he made over 200 appearances for the club and became, along with brother Leigh, the epitome of the sort of dedicated player that manager Paul Halsey wanted at the core of his sides.
I have also written a report on an emotional and uplifting ‘Will You Still Love Me’? performance by Generation Circus in the Ware Drill Hall, which I was invited to attend. The youngest performer was aged 53. Such an inspiring event and you can discover more in your Flyer. You’ll also find your regular school news inside your issue too.
Thank you to Hertford Town Council for their latest news and to Dan from I Love Hertford; good luck for your Marathon training Dan! Thank you for reading, sharing and supporting the Flyer and we hope you enjoy your August issue.
With best wishes
