Letter from the Editor The Hertford and Ware Flyer June

As I write I’m thinking about the long days in June. I especially enjoy seeing butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies dancing in the air and over water. If you’re interested in local wildlife – and perhaps taking part in 30 days Wild in June – why not take a look at www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk/events/30-days-wild

Events in Hertford and Ware

There are many events ahead, including the Hertford Family Fun Day (25th June) organised by Hertford Rotary, with assistance from Hertford Town Council. There will be a wide range of family friendly activities. Taking place in the Castle grounds it’s free to enter but donations are welcome. The Ware Festival starts with Carnival Day and includes a River Parade (1st July) followed by the Ware Festival of Running (2nd July) then a number of events including the Riverside Real Ale Festival; Raft Race and the Pavement Artists Competition (8th July) and Rock in the Priory (30th July). The Hertford Food and Drink Festival (8th and 9th July) includes the Hertford Castle Beer and World Food Festival, street food markets, café, bar and restaurant activities and live music. The Castle will be open to explore. Plus the Hertford Heath Summer Fayre (15th July) takes place on the village green in the afternoon followed by live music on the big stage in the evening.

Music in Hertford and Ware

If you enjoy music, there are concerts from the Ware Choral Society (17th June, Drill Hall) and the Hertford Choral Society (24th June, All Saints Church) plus free summer concerts at Ware Priory. We also have both music and dog related activity updates from Ware Drill Hall! Why not find out about these events inside – and add some dates to your diary?

We’re pleased to be running a competition this month to win a family ticket (for 2 adults and 2 children) to ‘Summer Evenings at the Zoo’ at Paradise Wildlife Park. The details are in your magazine and it’s very quick to enter. Good luck if you do! My family and I have been before; there is so much to see and do.

Charity News

Charity news this issue includes the celebrity opening of a new Willow charity shop in Hertford. The charity helps seriously ill young adults make special memories and they would be pleased to receive donations.  It’s Volunteers Week in June and Thank you Day on the 2nd July and you can find  volunteering opportunities here: www.govolherts.org.uk

Sports Clubs

Ware Swimming Club has been awarded a prestigious trophy, in addition to strong performances in competitive galas and Hertford Rugby Club has news of a ‘double-double’ in the finals of the Hertfordshire County Cup (under 16s). Plus the Inner Wheel Club of Hertford shares birthday and Coronation news and we hear from The Friends of Ware Priory.

This time you can also read about a special event that I recently attended at Scott’s Grotto in Ware (it’s such a fascinating place to visit and re-visit) as well as school and education news on topics including a class café; a sensory room; Coronation celebrations; a partnership venture; class updates and county football success. Do enjoy your issue and thank you for your support.

With best wishes
