Mayor’s Monthly Update – September 2026
The past month has been one of the most vibrant and uplifting of my mayoral year so far, filled with events that show the very best of Felixstowe.
At the centre of it all was our incredible Felixstowe Carnival. The town came alive with colour, music and community pride as the procession made its way through the streets. It was wonderful to see so many local groups, charities, performers and families taking part, each bringing their own creativity and enthusiasm. The live entertainment at the beach front event space created a fantastic atmosphere throughout the weekend, with crowds enjoying music, dance and family activities. The celebrations ended in spectacular style on Sunday evening with fireworks launched from the pier, lighting up the seafront and bringing the whole town together. My sincere thanks go to every volunteer, every steward and every performer, and especially to the Carnival Committee whose dedication and hard work make this much-loved event possible.
It was also a pleasure to welcome the Fire Cadets from Wesel, along with a delegation from Salzwedel, who took part in the carnival parade. Wesel and Salzwedel are Felixstowe’s twin towns in Germany, and their visit was a wonderful celebration of the longstanding friendship and close ties between our towns.
Another highlight was Yoga on the Beach, organised by Lindsey Franklin. Lindsey led a brilliant session that brought people together in a calm and uplifting way – and on her wedding day! Her generosity and commitment are truly inspiring. The event raised over £750 for the Mayor’s Charities, and I want to thank Lindsey and everyone who took part for their support and kindness.
Looking ahead, excitement is building for our upcoming Mayoral Skydive. On Sunday 27 September, nineteen brave local residents will be taking part in a tandem skydive to raise money for the Mayor’s Charities. The team is made up of volunteers from our charities, local businesses and friends and family, all stepping forward to support the causes that matter most in our town. Their willingness to jump from 13,000 feet says everything about the strength of community spirit in Felixstowe. Every contribution helps us continue supporting the vital work that the Mayors Charities do.
As always, I am incredibly proud of the people of Felixstowe. Our volunteers, fundraisers, organisers and supporters make this town what it is. This month has shown once again that Felixstowe thrives because of the kindness, energy and commitment of its residents. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in making these events so special.
