Mayor’s update – The Felixstowe Flyer September ’24 | Flyer Magazines

The last month seems to have flown by, since I last wrote an article, with a new government and a new MP in Suffolk Coastal constituency.

I have been extremely busy attending events the highlights this month have been Felixstowe Carnival , what a fantastic weekend on free entertainment! It was great to see so many residents and visitors supporting the procession, the entertainment along the se front and, of course, the fabulous fireworks. Events such as this don’t happen without months of prior work and planning, and I pay tribute to all those who spent many hours preparing for the weekend and  volunteering to ensure the weekend went ahead so smoothly.

July also saw the Mayors Civic reception at Landguard Fort thank you for all those who made this such a great occasion. The weather was kind and those attending enjoyed some fantastic food provided by the Bombay Nite in Walton. It was also a fantatsic opportunity for those attending to hear about my chosen charities, The Landguard Trust and Breasts Friends, and the important work they are responsible for. I was delighted to receive two generous donations to the Mayors Charity Fund from Paul Hedges  of Observation Attractions Limited, the owner of the  Ferris Wheel,  and Brook Lane Dental Practice, and I would like to thank them for their generosity.

During July we had a visit form The Mayor of Salzwedel, Burgermeister Olaf Meining, to celebrate 30 years of partnership. We will be planting a tree that I was presented with in Allenby Park to commemorate the milestone. Other events have included the Lions Club annual dinner which celebrated the contributions that Lions make to our Town –  in particular the Christmas lights – the opening of the refurbished Seafarers Centre at the Port, the  Scouts AGM and the Felixstowe Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

On a more unfortunate note, it was disappointing to learn of some recent criminal damage at Allenby Park after the Park following closure. With so many people, including the Felixstowe Town Council Grounds Team, working hard to make  Felixstowe a great place to live and visit, it is a shame a few people feel it is acceptable to damage a local Park that is enjoyed by so many.

An exciting event is upcoming in support of the my chosen charities – a Bargain Hunt in the Town Centre on Saturday 31 August sponsored by Maritime Transport. The items bought by the charity teams will be auctioned off at a spectacular end of summer party at Landguard Fort on 5 September, This will include cheese and wine tasting  and live music from ? for the fantastic price of £25. Tickets are also available for a reduced price with the code “EARLY20”. Tickets are available from Sue Faversham on 01394   288191 or sue.faversham@felixstowe.gov.uk and online at  www.breastfriends.co.uk/event-details/cheese-and-wine-evening. The wine will be provided by Adnams, and they have been chosen to expertly pair with cheeses provided by the Alba Chaira Restaurant.  Adnams will also be  at the event sharing their knowledge about the wines, with plenty of tasting available. Please do come and join us for what will be a memorable evening in a fantastic location to raise money for two very worthy causes.

Have a great summer,

Cllr David Rowe, Mayor of Felixstowe
