Mayor’s update
October was Breast Cancer Awareness month so, over the past month, I have been busy supporting one of the Mayoral Charities, Breast Friends CIC, to raise awareness of Breast Cancer. We launched the month in the Boardwalk Café Bar on the Pier, and a number of businesses in Felixstowe showed their support by making a donation to Breast Friends. October also saw a Wear it Pink Barn Dance in aid of the Mayor’s Charities. The evening was a great success, and really put the ‘fun’ in fundraising, with dancing to fantastic live band, Harbour Life. The next charity event will be Boogie Bingo – Bingo with a musical twist – at the Labour Club on 16 November. You can get your tickets from www.breastfriends.co.uk/event-details/boogie-bingo.
On 17 October, the 2024 Felixstowe in Flower Awards was hosted at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club. This year, the competitions saw many wonderful entries across all categories. I would like to thank everyone who entered the competitions, and all of the valued sponsors, whose continued support enables the Town Council to adorn the town centre and seafront with beautiful tubs, baskets and troughs every summer. If you are interested in learning more about Felixstowe in Flower, entering one of the free competitions, or sponsoring a floral display, visit www.felixstowe.gov. uk/felixstowe-flower to learn more. 2025 promises to be a big year, as it will mark the 40th Anniversary of Felixstowe in Flower.
In November, Felixstowe Town Council will work with the Felixstowe Branch of the Royal British Legion to coordinate events to commemorate Remembrance 2024. Please visit www.felixstowetowncouncil/remembrance for more information, and join us as we mark the sacrifice of those brave soldiers who gave the lives in times of war and conflict.
Lighting Up Day will also take place on 30 November at Felixstowe Triangle. Please join me in lighting up the town for the festive season ahead. My thanks go to The Lion’s Club of Felixstowe for their continued work to maintain and install the lights, filling Felixstowe with festive cheer every year.
