Mayor’s update – The Felixstowe Flyer August ’24 | Flyer Magazines
What a first few weeks it has been as Mayor! I didn’t realise quite how busy I would be, but am already enjoying every engagement and visit. Over the past few weeks I have visited RAF Honington for a reception and Sunset Parade, attend the Felixstowe Rotary Club community lunch, enjoyed the Level 2 celebration evening, and I spoke at Trimley St Mary School Summer Fair. On 16 June I held my Civic Service, which was an uplifting occasion. My thanks to Reverend Andrew Dotchin for leading the service, and to St Johns Church for hosting it, and a special thanks go to all those who provide the fantastic cakes at the end of the service.
Suffolk Day 2024
The 21 June was Suffolk Day, and it was great to speak at our celebration event in the Town Hall Gardens, as students from Colneis School , Felixstowe School and Grange School reading read poems, and many of the local care homes brought their residents to enjoy the event. The Suffolk Flag was raised and we enjoyed cakes kindly supplied by Morrisons and the Chef at Harbour Manor Care Home. In the evening I spoke at Suffolk Remembers organised by St Elizabeth Hospice, it was a very moving event, as hundreds gathered to remember their loved ones.
I was also delighted to attend the Year 13 graduation event at Felixstowe School, it was wonderful to hear of the achievements of young people in our town and the plans they have for the future. I wish to pay tribute to the school staff who were rightly proud of what the students had achieved. Their achievements were also the result of the dedication and commitment of the staff investing in their students and the school community.
Felixstowe Mayor’s Charities
Last month, I introduced my charities Breast Friends CIC and the Landguard Trust, and we are gearing up for a year of fundraising and exciting events. On 27 June a film showing was held at the Place Cinema in aid of the Charities, and it was a sellout! Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket! Our next fundraising events are a Bargain Hunt on 31 August, sponsored by Maritime Transport Ltd., and on 5th September a Cheese and Wine evening which will incorporate the Bargain Hunt Auction at Landguard Fort. Tickets are £25 and will be available shortly, from sue.faversham@felixstowe.gov.uk
July will bring more exciting events including the Carnival, so lets hope the lovely weather we are experiencing at the time of writing continues!
