The Felixstowe Flyer January 2022
In The Felixstowe Flyer January edition, we hear from that Fairtrade Fortnight will be held from 20 February to 5 March 2023. We also hear updates from
Felixstowe Men’s Shed . And other updates from local community groups, schools and organisations.
Felixstowe Fairtrade Forum January
We recently heard that Fairtrade Fortnight will be held from 20 February to 5 March 2023 and we have already started to make plans. And one thing we hope to do is to feature. And promote all the shops and cafes in Felixstowe that serve Fairtrade.
We will be contacting them early in the New Year. And hope that we can work with them on some special promotions during the Fortnight. Also we have recently redesigned our website where all the outlets are listed. And this is supplemented by a leaflet available from the library and the tourist hut on the sea front.
We have also been developing our expertise in social media. And will promote any initiatives through Instagram and our Facebook page.
Felixstowe for Fairtrade
If you are a local business serving Fairtrade please get in touch with us with any ideas on how we might support you. And if you do not currently serve Fairtrade, but are considering doing so. And please also be in touch and we will do all we can to help you. Also, our contact in Kenya, Patrick Kaberia, has told us how much he values the support of businesses and individuals in Felixstowe for Fairtrade. And buying Fairtrade really does make a difference to Patrick and his community.

Felixstowe Men’s Shed (FMS)
This Autumn has seen a flurry of new members arrive. We continue to benefit from the Hidden Needs Grant from East Suffolk District Council. High emphasis has been placed on Health and Safety with each member being issued with their own container to hold PPE equipment issued to them.
And the kitchen area has come alive with regular start up breakfasts with fresh coffee or tea. Also, having just completed an end of grant monitoring report for ESC it asked for case studies. And besides community projects members can work on their own and at the same time learn new or develop existing skills.
The Men’s Shed Felixstowe January
One member joined The Men’s Shed twelve months ago having suffered a major stroke, restricting movement and speech. He uses the Community FACTS transport to reach us. He started by cleaning items and painting projects. And on one occasion FMS chairman took him home and he showed him his detailed Pyrography art work from before his stroke.
Pyrography Felixstowe
As a result, the secretary made his own Pyrography set available that saw a change in his ability to partake in renewed Pyrography work. A former HGV driver and with a sense of humour he is gradually recovering his walking and speech, still plenty to do but a marked improvement. This project has enabled new Pyrography equipment to be purchased and used by the member in his recovery.
Woodturning
Another new member has joined, a competent and skilled wood turner who has previously taught the craft and is prepared to help members start from scratch in this wonderful medium. And we have two wood lathes. Why not come along and see what is on offer?
We are located at 158 High Road, Trimley St. Mary, IP11 0TN and are open 10am – lunchtime Tuesdays and Thursdays and Saturday mornings 9am to 12pm. Further information and details showing past projects can be found on Facebook and www.felixstowemensshed.org.uk.
