Rotary Club of Bury St Edmunds Abbey 20th Anniversary Celebration Party

On April 15, 2025, the Bury St Edmunds Abbey Rotary proudly celebrated 20 years since its founding in 2005 with a festive party at Bury St Edmunds Golf Club. The event drew an impressive crowd of 74 guests, including members, friends, and representatives from various Rotary Clubs, all gathering to honour two decades of community service and camaraderie.
A Night to Remember
President Melanie Lesser expressed her delight, stating, “It was wonderful to see so many members, friends, and representatives from other Rotary clubs at the celebratory dinner, a sign of the strength and continuity of our club.” She was joined by President-elect Max Weatherby and 12 past presidents of the Abbey Rotary, emphasizing the club’s rich history and enduring impact.
Special Guests and Toasts
David Mansfield, from the ‘Mother Club’—The Rotary Club of Bury St Edmunds—shared memories from the club’s formation and proposed a toast to the anniversary. The evening continued with a congratulatory speech from Andy Roberts, the District Governor Elect, who acknowledged the club’s significant contributions and activities over the years.
Celebrating the Journey
Founder members Ian Cox and Phil Peters brought humour to the event, sharing amusing anecdotes from the club’s various events over the past two decades. Guests were entertained by a fun slideshow showcasing memorable moments from the club’s history.
To commemorate this special occasion, attendees received a commemorative drinks mat, serving as a lasting reminder of the celebration.

The Rotary Club of Bury St Edmunds Abbey continues to impact the community through several charity fundraisers throughout the year, including:
