Cllr Hind has been Mayor of Bury St Edmunds since May 2023, her story starts a little bit before that.

Cllr. Diane Hind was born in1953 in Walthamstow, soon after the family moved to Essex, before settling in Bury in 1993. A traditional education achieving O’ and A levels, Diane went to work as an Insurance Broker where despite putting her dreams of becoming a teacher or a librarian to one side, she did fulfil one of her dreams by working on a Hospital radio request show.

Cllr. Hind met her husband of 47 years Cliff at the radio station, once married they had a son Kevin, who also served as a Town councillor for 10 years.

Cllr Hind became a District Councillor in 2011 and has served both Town and District council since 2015. In addition to being Mayor, Cllr. Hind is also Resources Portfolio holder on the District Council.

In her down time, Cllr Hind enjoys reading, cinema, and has been keen on Theatre & the Arts since she was a teenager, and has recently taken up Bridge. She also has a keen interest in social history and loves to visit museums.

Some of her favourite things, Food – Italian, Place – Lake Como Northern Italy, Hobby – reading, Guilty pleasure, a keen supporter of West Ham United a pastime she enjoyed with her late husband and son and continues to attend games with Kevin.

When asked about her greatest achievement Cllr. Hind said she is incredibly proud of serving the town as a councillor, anything she can do to help people and make a difference in their lives, feeling incredibly humbled by the amount of volunteer groups that support Bury St Edmunds.
