Bury St Edmunds Flyer August 2023
Bury St Edmunds Flyer August 2023 we hear about an upcoming Literature Festival in Bury St Edmunds, and other community events and updates. And we also hear from local groups, charities and clubs.
A new book festival is coming to Bury St Edmunds in October
And it’s the very first literary fringe festival in the UK!
For organisers and local authors Jackie Carreira and Rachel Churcher, it started with a question: “Why is there no such thing as a Fringe
Literature Festival? We have them for film and theatre and music but not books. Why not – and more importantly, what would it look
like?”
Foreword Festival Bury St Edmunds
Their answer is the Foreword Festival, taking place at the Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday October 7th and Sunday October 8th 2023. “We are both passionate about reading, writing, and the power of books to inspire creativity and change lives,” Rachel explains. “We can’t wait to welcome you to the Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds for a weekend of books, authors, writing, and publishing!”
The creative duo has invited authors, independent publishers, and speakers from around the UK for a celebration of literature that’s outside the mainstream. They will be playing host to authors of graphic novels, sci-fi and fantasy, comedy, poetry, children’s books, non-fiction and more, as well as offering workshops
for writers, and help with getting writing into print.
A Literary First for Bury St Edmunds
A Literary First for Bury St Edmunds “We’re excited to be holding our festival book fair and workshops in the gorgeous Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds – a building with 1000 years of history,” says Jackie. “We hope you’ll join us for our celebration of reading, writing, and individuality!”
Entry to the Guildhall and book fair will be free during the event, with a charge for the workshops. The festival is sponsored by local businesses Taller Books, QuirkHouse Theatre, and Softwood Self-Publishing, and supported by the Bury Literature Festival, which takes place two weeks later on October 20th to 22nd.
The team will announce extra fringe events nearer the time via their website, www.forewordfestival.uk.
