The Bishop’s Stortford Flyer November 2023
As I write it’s hard to believe this is now our November issue, but rest assured we have some great events, ideas and local community information to take us from autumn into early winter. Recently I’ve been enjoying taking photos of the trees when out walking, especially when the sun casts a beautiful golden glow on them. Let’s hope the weather stays as good as possible!
Bishop’s Stortford Christmas Fayre
Events coming up include the Bishop’s Stortford Christmas Fayre on Saturday 2nd December – a town centre event full of festive activities for all the family; an interactive showing of Hairspray on Saturday 11th November – a charity fundraising event in the Manuden Village Community Centre; A Sunday Listening Café with Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia on the 26th November -a free event at the Bishop’s Stortford Methodist Church and winter shows at South Mill Arts – including Cinderella from the 9th December. ‘A Christmas Carol’ – by This is My Theatre – is also being performed in several nearby venues (including Bishop’s Stortford on Sunday 10th December).
Bishop’s Stortford Library
We hear from Bishop’s Stortford library, about a range of events for all ages. They look forward to welcoming you to their Warm Space. Plus, there’s a full update on Christmas services from St James Thorley and a number of events that are either organised by or support Isabel Hospice – including Lights of Love Remembrance Services in Bishop’s Stortford (3rd December) and Sawbridgeworth (9th December) and the Barringtons Sleigh Ride around Bishop’s Stortford (8th December).
Seems like this is the time to book some of these into your diaries! Find out about all these events – and more – inside your magazine.
Charity Volunteer News
In charity volunteer news we hear from The Community Alliance about the need for local volunteer drivers to support its Community Car Scheme, which then enables less-mobile residents to get to their essential appointments. Additionally, Hummingbird Cancer Support Group is delighted to say it has now reached its full number of volunteers and reminds us of the services they provide to people – and their families and friends – who have been diagnosed with cancer. Do get in touch with either of these charities if they can help or if you’d like to volunteer as a driver.
Sports News Bishops Stortford
The BSRFC women and girls’ teams have sent in a report this month, with news on training nights and rugby camps and they say it is never too late to try something new! There’s also a report from the Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club on a group of Masters swimmers who entered the annual Swim Serpentine open water swim in London’s Hyde Park; some fantastic achievements all round. Why not read about these and other club and group news inside?
Cycle Stortford tells us about the first Kidical Mass in the town; nearly 100 children and their parents took part in this recent event (and there will be more of them). It’s a very interesting update.
We also have a variety of inspiring and informative primary and secondary school news for you, including Open Day / Evening events; sporting champion updates; a fascinating European Day of Languages Fair; activities to support a local charity and handmade cards for a true community stalwart. You may well be intrigued by some of this.
Do enjoy reading your copy of the Flyer and thank you very much for all your support.
With best wishes
