Welcome to the November issue of your Flyer magazine. I hope you’ll find the wide range of community news articles and things to do useful, as we move closer towards the end of the year and what can often be a very busy time!
Coming up is the Bishop’s Stortford Christmas Fayre, on Saturday 7th December, with plenty of things to do, music and entertainment for all ages. You can also find out about other activities happening in the town and nearby at: www.bishopsstortfordtc.gov.uk/events or by popping into the Tourist Information Centre, which I find an absolute treasure trove of information! The Bishop’s Stortford library has shared another update on their events, for both children and adults, and many of them are ongoing. We also hear about the free weekly Hertfordshire Health walks that take place at Castle Park and in Thorley. You’ll always be assured of a warm welcome from a trained volunteer leader in a bright yellow jacket. Why not find out more inside your magazine?
Charity news this month includes a reminder from Hummingbird Cancer Support about what they do to offer support. They run a comprehensive programme of therapies and group classes and meet every Monday morning. This month the Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford tells us they recently gave Hummingbird Cancer Support a donation and that their members received a very informative update from the charity.
News from Isabel Hospice includes the recent launch of its new online shop, with every purchase made contributing directly to funding the palliative care services provided by this charity to the eastern Hertfordshire community: www.isabelhospice.org.uk In addition, Company at Christmas updates us that around 140 guests will be welcomed on Christmas day, or if unable to come out a Christmas dinner will be delivered. They are holding a meeting on the 28th November at 7.30pm in the Methodist Oasis Lounge in Bishop’s Stortford to start to coordinate helpers. You can find details about all these charities, and more, in your Flyer.
We also have updates from local clubs and groups. The Herts and Essex Boundary Flower Club is holding a Christmas themed event on the 3rd December, when flower arranging demonstrator Kathy will follow the theme ‘A little bit of sparkle’. Visitors are always welcome. The Stort Valley RSPB Group has several events during November, both outside in wildlife orientated locations and an indoor meeting with a speaker. The Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford also share news about current preparations for their annual Christmas collections (more to follow on this).
Bishop’s Stortford Bowling Club details club results and news of a hat-trick in the Bishop’s Stortford Bowling Club championships by new bowler Janet. In addition, Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club swimmers, Dylan and Ella, represented Hertfordshire at Swim England’s National County Team Championships in October. Such great news to share from these clubs! Plus, there are many other news items inside this issue and all the charities, clubs and groups that are included would be very pleased to hear from you.
With the usual round-up of school news as well, we hope you enjoy your November magazine. Thank you for all your support and contributions.
With best wishes
