Bishop’s Stortford Flyer Magazine April ’26 | Free Magazine Welcome
Letter from the Editor
It’s lovely to write your April letter, knowing that the bluebells will be emerging as a welcome and uplifting sign of springtime. I hope you discover local events and ideas in your Flyer that will inspire you to make the most of this new season. Also, that chocolate (for those who like it) may feature over Easter and beyond!
Things to do include the opportunity to visit Eco Fair In The Square (22nd April). This is a brand-new community event organised by Bishop’s Stortford Town Council, bringing together local organisations, charities and traders who are passionate about protecting our planet and helping our community live more sustainably. It takes place in Market Square and hands-on activities for all ages will be included! We have also received a family-friendly cycle route from Cycle Stortford this month; the route winds through local neighbourhoods and green open spaces, offering a whole new perspective on familiar streets. They tell us that cycling is a brilliant way to boost fitness, lift your mood and spend time together outdoors, as well as a simple step towards greener travel in our community. Why not find out more inside?
The Bishop’s Stortford Library updates us about a wide range of seasonal and regular activities for all ages, which includes school holiday events. Plus, the Bishop’s Stortford u3a reminds us about its 50+ interest groups, with no age restrictions, just that you are not in full-time employment. Additionally, the Bishop’s Stortford Running Club has its Beginners course coming up (from April to June). You are warmly invited to find out more. All their coaches are England Athletics qualified – most were previous BSRC beginners themselves and love seeing new runners achieve what they thought was impossible!
In local charity and group news we have a report from Renée at Isabel Hospice about the results of recent fundraising events. Renée says thank you to everyone who has been involved and says: “All our care and support, to patients and their families, is free, so we do rely on, and appreciate the support of our incredible local communities, to enable us to continue to provide this vital care.” We also find out that every Isabel Hospice shop is now are open on Sundays, making it easier for everyone to get involved. The Bishop’s Stortford WI shares fascinating information from recent meetings and tells us that the WI’s latest campaign is “Bystanders can be lifesavers”. New members are always welcome and all women over 18 years can come as a visitor for to up to three meetings, before deciding whether to join.
Lesley, from the Bishop’s Stortford based DKMS hub, has received community recognition for her dedication to raising awareness, registering stem cell donors and fundraising to support people with blood cancer and blood disorders in need of a lifesaving transplant. A very inspiring story. We also learn that the Animal Rescue Charity (affectionately known as ARC) in Bishop’s Stortford has rehomed well over 10,000 animals since 1991. They are marking their 35th anniversary with a fundraising event in June and they would love to tell you more about or other ways you could support them.
Your usual round up of local school news is also included and we hope you enjoy your magazine. Thank you for all your support.
With best wishes
