TALENTED JAPANESE PIANIST VISITS OLD HARLOW

A musical journey through the ages

Waka Hasegawa, a native of Tokyo, Japan, commenced her piano studies at the tender age of four. At the age of nine, she made her grand debut as a concert pianist in her hometown of Chiba. Her exceptional talent drew the attention of the renowned Czech pianist Jan Panenka at the Kirishima International Music Festival. This recognition led to an audition, which led to a scholarship to study at the esteemed Royal Academy of Music in London, where she was tutored by Piers Lane.

Since her London debut at the iconic Purcell Room, Waka has been highly acclaimed for her imaginative programme selections and her profoundly moving performances.

Her recital will showcase an assortment of classical pieces from composers Philip Glass, J.S. Bach, Steve Reich, Arvo Pärt, Joe Hisaishi, and Franz Liszt.

St John’s Arts and Recreation Centre, St John’s Walk, Old Harlow CM17 0AJ.
Friday 4 July 2025, 1.30 – 2.30pm.
