Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
This will be the 3rd year of ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ and the team behind the event want it to become a Christmas staple on Christmas Eve Eve.
The original idea was mooted amongst a couple of friends a few years ago and it has now blossomed into a community charity event, this could not be done without the support of local councillor Calvin Horner, James Felton, Prontaprint, David Lee estate agents, Simon Baker of Livewire Rock Academy and Markitdone handyman services.
Backing music will be provided by local musicians including some talented youngsters and some others of a rather more extended vintage.
Last year the event raised over £1000 for the Bishops Stortford Food Bank and Night Shelter. Helen Kenny the Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank Manager said ‘Last year’s donations meant we were able to provide Christmas Bags for local families to include some extra goodies to help during this festive period. This year we would like to be able to reach out to many more families for whom this would really make a difference to. I have recently joined the foodbank as the new manager and can see how the need for our support is increasing in these challenging times. However, it is amazing to see how the local community comes together to support us with donations throughout the year, which we really do appreciate’.
As with previous years the event will take place on 23rd December at 5pm, which this year falls on a Saturday, so they hope that not only local residents of Bishops Stortford and the surrounding villages will be able to join them, but their families may already be visiting, adding to the Christmas cheer.
They look forward to everyone coming together to sing some Christmas favourites!
Attendees are encouraged to bring their voices, torches, light up antlers and some cash donations for the collection buckets.
This is an Outside event so warm dress and sturdy footwear is advised and as always Santa hats are encouraged.
See you in a months time!!
