News from SET Ixworth School
Cross Country success
On Thursday the 10th October a selection of runners from SET Ixworth
School took part in the Suffolk Schools Cross Country at Royal Hospital School in Holbrook. The weather was on our side with clear skies and no wind. All students ran a good race, competing
against many students across the North and West parts of the county.
Three of our runners made it through to the next round when they were
placed within the top 50.

Following this, at Ipswich High School in Woolverstone, on Saturday 30th
November Lily, Rosey and Luca braved the frosty morning to compete in the ‘A Race’ Cross Country Event. Arriving early to explore the start and route, all three runners were apprehensive to take their mark.

Cross Country Running has long been accepted as an endurance
event promoting mental toughness alongside physical fitness. Our early arrival allowed the students to mentally prepare for the event
including studying the event route and assessing the uneven ground, the
inclines and the varying terrains. Our runners had to visualise the outcome
of their race and also be prepared for the unexpected – the short burst
of rain mid race is a good example!

Parents and teachers were in support throughout. Cross country is an
excellent show of community and commitment from all involved.
It is with pride and excitement that we congratulate Luca and Rosey on
securing a place within the next round, ‘Race B’, of the Suffolk Schools Cross
Country to be held at Woodbridge School on January 9th. We wish you
all the very best of luck and expect you’ll be training hard over the
Christmas break.

Other news around the School Work has already begun to create a
Learning Resources Centre within the School. This will see a suite of PCs
added to what is currently the library. The centre will be open to students at
break, lunchtimes and after school and will also be used for research and the delivery of Computer Science.

Plans to convert the nursery to the far left of the School have now been
agreed and this space will be open in September 2020. As part of this
project, we are looking to create a new Art and Photography studio.
