Welcome to the July 2023 edition of The Thurston and Ixworth Flyer. In this July edition of the Thurston and Ixworth Flyer we have news and updates from local schools, clubs and community news.

Bardwell Primary School News, July 2023

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31

As we say a very fond farewell to our amazing Y6 pupils, we know that they will soar on wings like eagles! Dear Y6s, you have embodied every single one of our Cogs – you are Inquisitive, Kind Communicators, Aspirational, Courageous, Resilient and Reflective. Take those virtues with you to your new school and you will do so well. Our main Aspiration for you is that you come back to see us every now and then, to let us know how you are doing.

The latter part of the Summer term is always busy and this one has been no exception.  We have enjoyed our annual Sports Day (“The Bardwell Games 2023”) where we witnessed incredible determination and sporting behaviour during what was a very hot day. Each of our four Houses wore their team colour and made an amazing banner. We had cheerleaders and mascots too. Huge congratulations to this year’s trophy winners – Fire House!

Well done to all pupils in their DfE assessments in Multiplication Tables and Phonics screening, we are really proud of you all.

At the time of writing, we are looking forward to a whole school trip to Weeting Steam Rally in July and would like to thank our PTA for their kind financial support of this trip.  The PTA have been wonderful this year, fundraising from event after event including Cars on the Green and the village Fete, as well as our favourite – Freeze Pop Fridays and regular cake sales.

A huge thank you to the many volunteers and local organisations who help the school in so many different ways: Mrs Williams, Mrs Gooderham, Mrs Hutchinson, Miss Wainwright, Mrs Cook, Mrs Hill, Mrs Finn, Miss Proctor, Mr and Mrs Parker. Thanks also to the Dun Cow, the Grumpy Goat and Toolbox Marketing. What a lucky school we are!

We are also hopeful of fantastic weather for the almost-legendary Bardwell School Carnival, with this year’s theme being Carnival of the (British) Animals. Home-made, sustainable costumes and lots of noise will be the order of the day.

This will be our last contribution to the Bardwell Village News until the Autumn Term. We wish our pupils, new Reception starters, their families and our staff the most wonderful of Summers.
