Mayor’s Blog
It’s been another busy month, and my consort and I have attended an amazing range of wonderful events across the town. We’ve been to see an amazing art exhibition by Heath Brown, a concert by the Viva Voices choir, an exceptional youth theatre production at the Museum of Food, the SOD’s performance of Half a Sixpence which was just great, and we opened the Duck and Pond bar at Cedrus House.
I’d encourage you to see the Tinklers Quest exhibition along with their new trail. The Rural Coffee Caravan celebrated their 20th Anniversary and it was wonderful to support the good work they do.
We attended the Memorial Service for the 70th Anniversary of the end of the Korean War and I laid a wreath on behalf of the residents of Stowmarket, and thanks to the RBL for organising this event.
It’s difficult to choose a highlight, as there were so many, but we really enjoyed taking part in the Stowmarket Carnival. Despite the forecast, the weather held up and it was just wonderful to see the town come together to celebrate. It takes a year of planning and my thanks go to the Carnival Committee for making this years such a success.
I look forward to celebrating more events in the centre of the universe also known as Stowmarket.

‘Go Green Go Wild’
In October half term Stowmarket Town Council will be holding an environmental themed, family friendly event called ‘Go Green Go Wild’, to inspire and educate young people about the value of wildlife and the importance of protecting the environment. This exciting new event will be free to attend, held on our Milton House grounds and at Stowmarket Scout Centre between 10.30am-2.30pm on Tuesday 24th October 2023.
The day will be jam packed with lots of fun interactive stalls and activities for all the family. Organisations such as Suffolk Wildlife Trust, Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, Get Suffolk Reading, Mid Suffolk Food Savvy and many more will be attending! There will be lots of fun for children including facepainting, a treasure hunt and games. We will also be giving away 100 wildlife habitats for families to take home on the day as part of our Bio 100 initiative.
