Stowmarket Mayor’s Update

Mayor’s Blog

As I write this, my head still slightly foggy from celebrating New Year’s Eve, I’m aware most of you won’t read this until February. With that in mind, I’ll spare you talk of sprouts and leftover nut roast! Since this is a report on my activities over the past month, please indulge me.
December was exceptionally busy.
Our team came second at the Poppy Appeal Fundraising Quiz—a great evening for a worthy cause. I drew the Mind Charity Raffle, narrowly avoiding making off with the socks from the winning hamper!
Attending a SODS performance was a treat, especially as it marked my daughter’s first-ever pantomime—a memory we’ll treasure for years.
I was honoured to attend the Afro-Caribbean 2024 End-of-Year Party—a joyous celebration of how embracing our differences unites us.
The Stowmarket District Scouts Christmas Carol Service, the launch of the Stowmarket & Area Foodbank Christmas Hampers Appeal, and Stowmarket High School’s Christmas Hamper Design Competition highlighted our community’s remarkable generosity, though it’s sobering these services are so needed.
The Stowmarket Town Christmas Carol Service supported my chosen charities, including Red Gables. I also joined Redwoods Lunch Club for their Christmas meal, an event tackling social isolation.
Finally, celebrating Community Jam Pot’s joint Christmas Day Meal/10th anniversary and Jim’s 100th birthday were wonderful reminders of true community spirit.
