Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra this July
Suffolk audiences are guaranteed a world class performance when Israeli pianist Ariel Lanyi plays Mozart with the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds, on Sunday 16 July.
International pianist Ariel Lanyi
One of the world’s fastest-rising stars of classical music, Ariel has been selected by the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) for a series of unique performing opportunities around the world which includes this debut performance with the county’s fully professional Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mozart’s Piano concerto No.20 and Beethoven
Ariel will play Mozart’s Piano concerto No.20 – one of only two of Mozart’s piano concertos in a minor key but which concludes with a triumphant change to the major key. The concert also includes Beethoven’s Symphony No.1 and the overture to the opera “Amadis” by Johann Christian Bach, one of twenty children of the great Johann Sebastian Bach.
Spring and Summer series of “Celebration Sundays” concerts
The event completes the Spring and Summer series of “Celebration Sundays” concerts at The Apex which explore the evolving Classical style through the masterpieces of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, with a glance back to J.C. Bach.
Leslie Olive, conductor of Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra, said: “The Royal Albert Hall is not the only place you can hear stupendous playing this summer, as our two previous concerts in the Celebration Sundays series at The Apex have proved. The final concert in the series on Sunday 16th July promises to be every bit as outstanding and memorable. We are all hugely looking forward to hearing the wonderfully gifted Ariel Lanyi playing Mozart with us on that day. For a Proms quality performance, don’t miss it.”
International pianist Ariel Lanyi
Born in Jerusalem in 1997, award-winning Ariel completed his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London and now performs internationally as a soloist and within chamber groups. As soloist Ariel has appeared with orchestras in Israel, the UK, Argentina and the USA with highlights including the Israel Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestras. In 2021 Linn Records released his recording of music by Schubert to critical acclaim.
A spokesperson for YCAT said: “We’re delighted to have the support of the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra in promoting young classical artists at the start of their careers.”
