The Stowmarket Flyer January 2023
In this month’s Stowmarket Flyer we hear about the successful Stowmarket Christmas Fayre. We also hear from the The Rotary Club of Stowmarket Gipping Valley. Also The Mix shares with us an update for 2023.
Stowmarket Christmas Fayre attracts thousands
Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Stowmarket Christmas Fayre in November. Despite the damp start thousands braved the rain to browse market stalls by local and regional traders. Independent businesses filled the town selling everything from Christmas puddings to candles. By lunchtime the rain had stopped and the Market Place was packed with people sampling the array of food and drink on offer and listening to the live festive music.

Stalls continued at the Food Museum with a mini makers market in the Barn. Children got to meet Santa and say hello to some of the Museum’s woolly residents as well as play on free fairground rides and enjoy storytelling sessions.
At the John Peel Centre live music from Ipswich Reggae Choir, Will Fergusson, and Stowmarket Chorale got people in the festive mood. Stowmarket Library ran free children’s craft sessions creating Christmas cards, and in St Peter’s Hall Timebubble Time Machine hosted a free toy-building workshop, with children creating model wooden sleighs.
Christmas Tree Festival
In the Parish Church the Christmas Tree Festival was lit up with trees decorated by the community. The Regal showed two Pocket Money Movies, selling out festive classics Elf and Arthur Christmas. Stowmarket Craft Market at The Mix boasted a selection of handmade goods, from chutneys to textiles.
Red Gables Stowmarket Flyer January
Red Gables hosted another successful charity fair, plus Colin Lay, his brother Chris Lay, and Bonnie Davey all cut their long hair for good causes. Colin and Chris Braved the Shave raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and St Elizabeth Hospice. Bonnie and Chris donated their long hair to the Little Princess Trust.
Local businesses who opened their doors experienced a busy day with many people visiting Stowmarket’s independent shops for their shopping and a chance to have a coffee in the warmth.
