The Stansted Flyer Magazine March ’24 Update and Welcome
Letter from the Editor
As I write this month’s letter there is the welcome prospect of the clocks going forward on the 31st March (which also coincides with Easter Sunday) So, I hope you can enjoy the longer daylight hours and also some chocolate, if you like it!
Stansted Community March ’24
In our March issue you’ll find plenty of community information, things to do and local news. The Mill has been given its annual spring clean and will be open on Easter Sunday (31st March) and Easter Monday (1st April), with an Easter Egg Hunt for younger visitors. They would also like to encourage more residents to take up the Miller’s membership scheme. Lynda from St Mary’s Church tells us visitors are always welcome into the church – there’s a visitor’s book inside! Plus, there will be some exciting events ahead. Also, are you in a band or choir? There are opportunities to perform in the church. At Daisy May’s Farm you can meet the new lambs and kid goats and much more. They’re running their Hatch a Chick scheme again and welcome help on the farm too.
Stansted March Group Updates
We also have updates from a wide range of local groups and clubs including the Stansted Bowling Club with news (amongst other things) about North West Essex Bowls Association matches and the Herts and Essex Seniors League. The u3a Stansted Mountfitchet share information about some of their recent group activities – there are so many interest groups – and their AGM takes place in March.
Stansted Sports Updates
Stansted Tennis Club updates us on its junior section coaching, club open sessions and Rusty Rackets for players that are not yet comfortable at club open sessions. Visitors are welcome at the club for a maximum of three visits. Why not take a look in your Flyer and find out more about these groups?
Charity News Stansted
Charity news includes an article from Danaher Animal Home, introducing Biggie, a Collie cross breed who is looking for a home. If you’re not able to adopt, but would like to help, it’s possible to sponsor or part-sponsor an animal in their care. Let’s Talk, Stansted! has been planning activities and on the 26th March is organising a special event to mark “Debt Awareness Week” with a panel of experts sharing information and advice, plus they have updates on the Veg Shed and a ladies gardening group. Details are inside your magazine about ways to get involved with these charities.
The Stansted Business Forum is moving to a new venue (the Kings Arms in Stansted); they meet on the first Friday of the month. They would be pleased to hear from businesses who may like to find out more. Sustainable Stansted shares resources on ways to save energy and money, to reduce energy bills, and to help to save the planet. Any feedback from you on this is welcome. Plus, there’s a young songwriters competition, open to all young people in Years 3 to 13 who live in, and/or attend schools in the Bishop’s Stortford area including Stansted Mountfitchet. Entries close on the 24th May, so don’t miss out!
Your usual primary and secondary school news is also inside and thank you for your support of the Flyer. Do enjoy this springtime issue.
With best wishes
