The Stansted Flyer Magazine June ’26 Update and Welcome
Letter from the Editor
As we move into early summer, with maximum daylight hours in front of us, you’ll find plenty of events and activities here to help you make the most of June and beyond!
The Uttlesford Big Green Festival (5th – 14th June) has over 30 events for you to choose from. These include a Sustainable Stansted event – in partnership with others – called ‘Cut your Energy Bill, Go Green, See the Tech, ask the Experts’ (13th June). There’s also an illustrated talk on ‘Penguins, Whales and Icebergs’ by Edward Gildea (11th June); a showing of the People’s Emergency Briefing film, featuring Chris Packham, followed by audience-led discussion (11th June) and a Repair Cafe in the Radwinter Pavilion where visitors can book in their broken items (13th June). Find the full programme here: www.uttlesford.gov.uk/green-festival Don’t miss out!
Other things happening include the Elsenham Flower Show Society Open Garden Day (28th June) with 10 gardens opening around the village and a commemorative day to the men and women who contributed during the World Wars, at the Gardens of Easton Lodge (14th June). Did you know that Easton Lodge was requisitioned by the War Office at the start of the First World War and was used as the HQ for the Third Army until 1916? Open air productions are returning to Hatfield Forest and there’s a Saffron Walden Community Day with Dog Show (27th June).
The new Sir David Attenborough exhibition is on at Saffron Walden Museum (until 6th September) and Stansted Library updates us on its regular activities (Baby Rhyme Time, Knit and Natter, IT drop in, Saturday Warm Welcome) and new weekly Informal Stroke Group (Mondays, 10am-12 Noon). We also discover that the Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra’s 70th anniversary concert (14th June) includes 12-year-old Alice taking to the stage following her win of the 2025 Barker Bursary. Why not find out more about all these events and pop some in your diaries?
Local group and charity news includes an update from the Saffron Walden and District Society of Model Engineers; children of all ages have the chance to ride behind live steam engines on the third Saturday of each month until October at its relocated miniature railway in Down Farm in Stansted and they would love to hear from you if you’re interested in joining the Society. Plus, a range of social events are taking place at Elsenham Bowls and Social Club.
The Stansted in Bloom Action Group is currently focused on its entry in the 2026 Anglia in Bloom competition. They also tell us you can nominate gardens for certificates of appreciation by emailing: stanstedinbloom@gmail.com Touchpoint invites visitors to their garden to enjoy it, after the TouchPoint volunteers have been performing horticultural heroics! Why not visit on a café day? New volunteers are always welcome.
We also have inspiring updates from Support 4 Sight (over 50 active volunteers this year alone have clocked 2016 hours of volunteering) and Project Prom (an initiative created to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to attend their high school prom regardless of financial circumstances). All the groups and charities I have mentioned in my letter would be glad to hear from you.
Additionally, there’s school news inside which includes Music in the Park at Bentfield School (27th June). Enjoy your Flyer and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
