The Stansted August Flyer ’23
Welcome to your August issue of the Stansted and Dunmow Flyer. Amongst the community news and local events in this issue there’s a great choice of things to do. With many events coming up, alongside your community news, this is a full issue as usual. The Mill Fete is on the 28th August and there’s so much to do for families and all age visitors; don’t miss out!
The Stansted Flyer August Update and Welcome
As I write I realise how quickly we have reached the middle of summer. With long daylight hours still here and the school holidays upon us, it seems a good opportunity to enjoy our green spaces and maybe pack a picnic? You could even count butterflies and record your sightings as part of the Essex Wildlife Trust ‘Butterfly Seekers’ initiative www.essexwt.org.uk
Stansted Flyer August Events
With many events coming up, alongside your community news, this is a full issue as usual. The Mill Fete is on the 28th August and there’s so much to do for families and all age visitors; don’t miss out! The Summer Reading Challenge is on at the library for primary age children and their families and Saffron Walden Museum has a summer of art, with a ‘Wild about Walden’ art trail, art exhibition, creative activities for families and a Heritage Crafts Day (24th August).
At Hatfield Forest there are boat trips and outdoor theatre performances and there’s a beach and overnight camping at Daisy May’s Farm – plus the animals! Victorian themed children’s activities, a performance of Horrible Histories (30th and 31st August) and a ‘When I Went Shopping, I Bought…’ exhibition are all happening at South Mill Arts, along with a special film directed by Simon Baker featuring his disabled brother Matthew, a former Stansted resident ( 10th September),
The Hundred Parishes Society August Update
In this issue The Hundred Parishes Society has provided an insightful overview of museums in the areas it covers; all open in the summer. Some of these museums you may not have heard of or visited. Why not find out more? There are some hidden gems and I’m certainly intrigued.
In addition, the Gardens of Easton Lodge is currently open every Thursday as well as on the 20th August for its monthly Open Day. Why not bring a picnic? It’s free admission for children under 16. The Elsenham Annual Village Flower Show takes place on the 19th August (open to the public from 3pm to 4.30pm ending with an Auction of Produce) Danaher Animal Home holds its Open Day on the 3rd September, with plenty to see and do including a Danaher Dog Show! Plus music fans may be interested in the annual Gaynorfest music festival (2nd and 3rd September) at The Coach and Horses in Newport. Their chosen charity is the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.
Clubs and Groups August
We have a number of reports from clubs and groups this month, including the Stansted Cricket Club who would be pleased to hear from any new players; the Stansted Tennis Club with their range of day and evening club sessions and junior tennis camps plus Stansted Mountfitchet U3A who share news about talks and visits. All these groups would be pleased to welcome new members and there are other groups to read about in this issue too.
Charity News Stansted August
Are you planning a clear out this summer? St Clare Hospice would really appreciate any donations of pre-loved goods for their Charity Shops. Plus, in school news we hear about safety skills workshops for Year 6 Uttlesford students with Crucial Crew; staff and student updates from St Mary’s school and an incredible £12,000+ raised from Music in the Park at Bentfield Primary School – the most ever!
I hope you enjoy your magazine and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
