The Sawbridgeworth November Flyer ’23
Welcome to your November issue of The Sawbridgeworth Flyer. In your Sawbridgeworth November edition. Amongst the community news and local events in this issue there’s a good choice of things to do in November.
Letter from the Editor for Sawbridgeworth November
As I write it’s hard to believe this is now our November issue, but rest assured we have events, ideas and local community information to take us from autumn into early winter. It may also be a time when some of us choose to reflect and remember. This is captured in this month’s Church and Town feature by Fr Simon, who highlights Remembrance and service information; it’s also included in the Mayor’s report. Let’s hope that whatever the month holds the weather is kind and some colourful flowers are still out.
Sawbridgeworth Events November
There’s also an opportunity to attend a service at the Airfield Memorial as part of the town’s Nostalgia Day (11th November). This annual event includes entertainment, along with information and displays by the Sawbridgeworth Local History Society and The Royal British Legion, in the Memorial Hall.
Other events include the annual Christmas Lights Switch On (25th November) from 3pm (lights on at 6.00pm). There will be plenty to do and get tempted by and Santa will be in his grotto. Great St Mary’s Church will be holding their Festival of Light where the church will be illuminated solely by candlelight. Sounds a lovely way to start the festive season off.
Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall
Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall has many events ahead. After Nostalgia Day there’s a blues singer (17th November), Uncle Funk Disco inferno (25th November), SMHT Music night (15th December) and Robin Hood (22nd December) plus some carols! Also, Cinderella (9th December onwards) is at South Mill Arts. This seems the time to book dates in!
Sawbridgeworth Community Library tell us they received a visit from the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire. We also find out that one of its young readers, Genevieve, was selected as the lucky participant in the Summer Reading Challenge prize draw. Find out more inside and why not visit your library soon? There’s always something to do and it’s a Warm Space too.
Charity News Sawbridgeworth
Charity news includes the Isabel Hospice Lights of Love Remembrance Services (9th December in Sawbridgeworth and 3rd December in Bishop’s Stortford). The Sawbridgeworth Bereavement Café takes place twice a month at the Hailey Centre and All Sorts run social activity groups for people with dementia at the Cricket Club. Plus, are you a car driver? The Community Alliance is asking for local volunteer drivers to support its Community Car Scheme in Sawbridgeworth, which enables less-mobile residents to get to essential appointments. Do get in touch with these charities to find out more, they’d love to hear from you.
Updates from Local Groups
Updates from local groups include news that the Sawbridgeworth Town Twinning Association recently celebrated 50 years of Twinning, with 57 present and former twinning members attending an event at the Hailey Centre. Sawbridgeworth WI supported the town’s Walk to School Week (over 200 children took part!) and on a separate occasion received a tour around the Gardens of Easton Lodge (coincidentally I did a 10 mile charity walk from these Gardens with some family in September; 30+ degrees, but we made it) Plus Sustainable Sawbridgeworth shares sustainable Christmas decoration ideas; I’ll be doing some of these!
School news includes a recent trip by Leventhorpe Sixth Form students to the UN and CERN; they came away inspired and with a much greater understanding. Why not catch up on all the school updates and community news inside your magazine?
Do enjoy reading your copy of the Flyer and thank you very much for all your support.
With best wishes
