Welcome to a New Councillor

Martlesham Council was delighted to welcome new councillor, Lana Galbraith at its June meeting. Lana is interested in problems such as littering and waste management. She also has a keen interest in the health and well-being of residents, sports skills development opportunities and leisure facilities.
Lana writes, ‘we live in a beautiful locality in a wonderful county, and I consider it a privilege to ‘do my bit’ for Martlesham.’ Welcome Lana! We look forward to working with you.

Development News Bramble Way, Black Tiles

Councillors and staff were pleased to be invited to the official opening of ‘Bramble Way,’ Black Tiles Lane, Martlesham on Friday 16th May. Hastoe Housing Association has worked in partnership with East Suffolk Council, Martlesham Parish Council and Homes England to deliver 47 new homes for local people. This is Hastoe’s largest land-led development to date, providing much needed affordable housing for the local area. The Black Tiles Hastoe development consists of 24 homes for social rent and 23 homes for shared ownership. The development includes open space and a small play area. Also present, were architects Ingleton Wood, Rose Builders Ltd and employer’s agent, Potter Raper.
We extend a warm welcome to all the residents of ‘Bramble Way’ and wish them every happiness in their new homes.

Brightwell Lakes

Members of Martlesham Council attend meetings of the Brightwell Lakes Community Forum. At the April forum, members were given an update on the progress of the proposed new school by members of the School’s Infrastructure team at Suffolk County Council:
• Design work is being undertaken for a new primary school at Brightwell Lakes.
• Suffolk County Council is currently undertaking the ‘presumption’ process to select an Academy Trust to operate the school.
• A reserved matters planning application for an Early Years and Primary facility will be submitted in winter 2025.
• Taylor Wimpey will transfer the school land to Suffolk County Council.
• The Construction period for Early Years and Primary facilities will run between May 2026 and August 2027.
• An Early Years and Primary facility will open in September 2027.
• The smallest secondary school Suffolk County Council will be permitted to open by the DfE is 600 places.
Forecasts suggest the demand for places from Brightwell Lakes is 300 pupils.
An additional 150 places will be added to Kesgrave High School from September 2027.
Suffolk County Council will continue to monitor places for secondary school pupils.

At its June meeting, the Parish Council approved the Income and Expenditure Accounts for the year ended 31st March 2025 and the Annual Governance and Accountability Return (AGAR). Summer holiday family fun for all ages funded by Martlesham Parish Council

Martlesham Parish Council is delighted to be working in partnership with Suffolk Wildlife Trust to ‘help save wildlife’.
Join us to create wildlife habitats for the parish rooms and community space-valuable wildlife corridors to Martlesham Wilds.
We will be digging stag beetle habitats, making minibeast homes, bird homes and much more.
All activities are available on a ‘drop in’ basis. Why not bring the family and perhaps a picnic?
Parking available, but please walk, cycle or lift share if you can. The area is accessible but please do email the Council with any queries.

12noon.
