The Ipswich Flyer October Update

OUT NOW! Broomhill Pool 1938 opening “Souvenir Programme” (repro).

To celebrate the 85th Anniversary of the opening of the pool (30 April 1938) and the 20th year of the Broomhill Pool Trust (est. 3 Sept 2003), we have arranged a new print run of Broomhill Pool’s original 1938 Souvenir Opening Programme.

The Trust has faithfully reproduced the original 1938 “opening Programme”. A 32-page document full of civic pride, heritage, and nostalgia; featuring the opening words from County-Borough of Ipswich, Mayor Underwood. Plus, Broom Hill Pool & Pipers Vale Pool specifications, original photos, opening gala Ipswich V Leamington; list of contractors; and original 1938 adverts for the contractors and suppliers.

Not only is this faithfully produced document a fitting tribute to the pool’s 85th anniversary, but the reproduction is a timely reminder to Councillors, Funders & Stakeholders (IBC, NLHF and Fusion Lifestyle) what an outstanding asset the pool was and will be again.

The Trust reproduction will sell for £5.00 and will be available at Broomhill Library and Castle Hill Community Centre.

Or £7.50 incl. P&P within UK mainland. Send us your order and address, via our contact form and pay via PayPal, using our website www.broomhillpooltrust.org/contact/

Calling all brass band players with a competitive spirit

Fancy getting involved with a Suffolk-based brass band for a spot of contesting? In Spring 2024 Castleton Brass is once again heading for the Regional Contest of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain and are looking to complete their line-up. The London & Southern Counties Regional Contest weekend, held in Stevenage, attracts around 80 bands across a range of performance levels.

“Castleton Brass has a long history of participating in the Regional Championships,” explains Band Chairman, David Beal. “Preparing for a contest is full of opportunities for continued improvement at both personal player and band level. It’s great fun and forges real team spirit, but to be fair, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and we respect that.”

Castleton Brass rehearse every week on Tuesday evenings (7.30pm – 9.30pm) just off the A140 at Stoke Ash in Suffolk. Additional full band and sectional rehearsals are scheduled on the run up to the  Regional Contest which takes place over the weekend of 16th – 17th March 2024. Any interested players need to be committed to attending these rehearsals and the event.
