Letter from the Editor The Hertford and Ware Flyer March
It really feels like we’re stepping into early spring now. I love the colourful flowers that are slowly emerging from their winter slumbers! Welcome to our March issue of the Flyer. We hope you’ll enjoy catching up on the community news and information we have prepared for you inside.
Hertford and Ware Town Councils 2023 Events
This month we hear from Hertford and Ware Town Councils about their forthcoming 2023 events; which includes a free “Picnic on the Lawn” event at Hertford Castle in celebration of the Coronation (7th May) and the Ware Festival events, with Carnival Day (1st July) having the theme ‘Thank You For The Music’. With so many events ahead, you may want to have your diary to hand as you read your Flyer!
Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre
The Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre updates us on three Haunted Walks in March (10th; 24th; 31st) with tickets and further information from them and the Hertford Art Trail (curated by Courtyard Arts) will run from Saturday 8th– Saturday 22ndApril at a range of venues. Both town libraries, which are designated ‘Warm Spaces’, update us on their regular events and facilities and both museums have plenty to see and do, with your last chance now to visit the Yarnbombers exhibition at Ware Museum! (ends 12th April)
Ware and Hertford Football Clubs
In club and group news we hear from Ware and Hertford Football Clubs, with some March fixtures and news of recent results plus Ware Swimming Club reports on some incredibly inspiring member results at the Swim England Hertfordshire Counties Championships 2023. Why not take a look in your magazine to find out more?
We have some fundraising and charity updates from Isabel Hospice, who share the results of recent events, with funds raised enabling them to continue to provide care and support locally. The charity is holding donation drop off days at Van Hage (13th – 14th March; 3rd – 4th April; 8th and 9th May). They are extremely grateful for all your support. We also hear from Members of Hertford Lodge, who meet in Hertingfordbury, who have recently donated £1,000 to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
Ware Town Council
Ware Town Council shares news that it is the first council in Hertfordshire to receive Gold level accreditation as part of the Local Council Award Scheme. Out of approximately 9,000 town and parish councils in the country there are currently only 57 that have received this accolade.
Wildlife Sites in Hertfordshire
Ready to blow some cobwebs away? We have a focus on Amwell Nature Reserve this month from the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. It’s one of the most important wildlife sites in Hertfordshire, open to visitors year round and its Dragonfly Trail is usually open from May to September. It is a place I personally really enjoy exploring in all seasons (usually with my camera!) and my family enjoy it too.
I Love Hertford
Your regular update from Dan at I Love Hertford has some great spring touches this time and there’s plenty of school news – including plays; the great outdoors, an MP visit, UK and overseas trips (including an emotional trip to Auschwitz); sensory experiences and music. Plus if you’d like to send us more school, or other local community news, please do get in touch. Thank you very much.
With best wishes
