The Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine August ’24
Inside the Hertford and Ware Flyer magazine August ’24 edition. There’s a great choice of things to do in this issue, alongside your community news.
Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine August ’24 Welcome
Letter from the Editor
Welcome to your August issue and hopefully the chance to enjoy picnics, walks, cycle rides and more. I’m sure my family and I will do this too and make the most of the school summer holidays, which can seem long but end up going very quickly!
As you look at your Flyer you’ll be able to plan in event diary dates and catch up on local community news. Summer holiday events for children are happening at both Hertford and Ware museums plus there are exhibitions at Ware, Hertford and Lowewood museums (Ware museum has also invited anyone interested in volunteering to contact them to find out more). The Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing and there’s still time for children to sign up and join in at their library (and other regular library events are also taking place). Sustainable Hertford Heath is holding its Fayre-ly Big Picnic on the village green and a Pre-Loved Clothing Sale in Holy Trinity Church on the 31st August (plus this group also runs several other monthly events).
Events Hertford and Ware August ’24
Additionally, there are a range of other events taking place in both Hertford and Ware town centres. Dan from I Love Hertford highlights events taking place in Hertford in August – and that Beam Hertford opens on the 23rd August – and in Ware there are school holiday activities (for children and teens), as well as free concerts for everyone, on selected dates at Ware Priory.
Opportunities to enjoy the outdoors include The Hundred Parishes Society’s free self-guided local walking routes; regular free Hertfordshire Health Walks (locations include Hertford and Stanstead Abbotts) and local parks and nature reserves across East Herts.
This month we find out about the recently launched Coffee and Coping meet ups in Stanstead Abbotts; everyone is welcome and those who run the sessions can listen, converse or signpost to help: www.coffeeandcoping.org Also, have you heard of Jailbreak Café and Shop? Somewhere a little different to visit locally which supports Teens Unite charity. Plus, we share an article calling cooks, bakers, growers, foragers and brewers – why not join Hertford Food Swap? It’s free, your produce is the currency.
Hertford and Ware August ’24 Groups and Clubs
Club and group news includes information from St Margaretsbury Tennis Club (new members are always welcome); updates from Ware FC; Hertford Bowls Club member Bert celebrating his 90th birthday and Ware Swimming Club having just passed a milestone 90th anniversary; do read your magazine to learn about these – and other – local groups.
Charity information includes an urgent stock appeal campaign, ‘Donate, to feel great!’, from Isabel Hospice. They have a list of items that can be donated (www.isabelhospice.org.uk/what-to-donate) Every donation helps support the hospice’s mission of outstanding palliative care for all. Also, FutureHope is looking for new volunteers to help in its Drop In Youth Café in Hertford. Volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of young people and both charities would be pleased to hear from you.
A free Community Engagement Day takes place on the 8th September. The Ware Neighbourhood Policing Team is holding it at Ware Priory; there will be crime prevention advice, stalls, children’s activities and more. Free entry and open to all. Additionally, we have all the regular school news for you to catch up on. Do enjoy your Flyer and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
