The details are inside for you. We also have Dan’s first monthly column, from I Love Herford.

Letter from the Editor The Hertford and Ware Flyer January

As we start this brand new year I hope your copy of the January Flyer will be a useful place for practical information and community updates, to take you through this first month of 2023 and beyond. After what may have been a very busy end to last year, why not take a little time out to read your issue, perhaps with a warm drink?

Warm Spaces Hertford and Ware

This month we have an article about ‘Warm Spaces’, places to visit to keep warm this winter, with official directories being compiled by East Herts Council and Herts County Council. The details are inside for you.

Charities Hertford and Ware

We also have news from several charities, including The Hertford and District Foodbank. They will be pleased to hear from you if you are able to donate food items (there’s a list of their current needs inside). Also, did you know that local NHS volunteers can help you become more cancer aware through free 60 minute awareness sessions? ‘Cancel out Cancer’ awareness sessions are provided either in person or on Zoom, find out more in your Flyer.

Local Groups and Clubs Hertford and Ware

Updates from local groups include Ware Swimming Club’s return of their annual Club Championships after a three year break.  They report on some amazing swims, a phenomenal number of Personal Best times and six Club Championships records. The SE Herts RSPB Group shares highlights of its January events, including a morning walk (18th January). They would be pleased to welcome new members. We also hear from the SE Herts Scottish Country Dance Society, who meet on term time Tuesday evenings. You don’t need a partner or a kilt! Full details from these groups – and others – are in your magazine.

Hertfordshire Health Walks in Janaury

Hertfordshire Health Walks invites us to consider walking outdoors with others. Trained volunteers lead six free walks from Sele Farm, Bengeo, Hartham Common, Hertford Town Centre and Stanstead Abbotts. Why not join them for a walk soon? We also hear from a group called ‘Ware Walking Mums’. The planting of a new jubilee woodland at Panshanger Park is taking place, now in memoriam to honour Her Majesty the Queen. There are multiple planting dates in January for you to get involved in this; wrap up well!

Sustainable Hertford Heath January Update

Sustainable Hertford Heath has a Maypole dancing practice session (30th January) which sounds intriguing. This free session is open to all ages…so there may then be a team who know what to do at the event in May! Other indoor events include afternoon films at the Priory in Ware; a new exhibition at Ware Museum from The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters (21st January – 12th April) and two exhibitions at Hertford Museum – the second phase of Hertford is my Home (until 26th March) and The Proof of the Pudding Stone (until 16th April). As well as events and opportunities to spend time in the warm, at each of the libraries!

Schools Updates January

Primary and secondary school updates include St Andrews (Walled Garden visit in Stanstead Abbotts); Amwell View (horse riding trip); Hertford St Andrew (takeover day at Hertford Museum); Bengeo Primary (their new library opening by David Rudd from Hertford library) and Presdales (International Breakfast). There are plenty of other school updates for you to read about too.

We also have Dan’s first monthly column, from I Love Herford. Thank you Dan – lots of info here!

Thank you very much for your continued support and you are always welcome to send in your community news and photos.

With best wishes
