Bury St Edmunds Flyer July 2023

Bury St Edmunds Flyer July 2023 we hear from Bury in Bloom, and other community events and updates. And we also hear from local groups, charities and clubs.

Bury in Bloom – July Update

Here in the Green Finger section of Bury in Bloom we are thoroughly enjoying helping the care homes and schools to get their gardens ready for the judging which starts on the 27th of June and look forward to having lots of lovely plants to judge. We are also looking for three new volunteers to join the team to help with all the sheltered and residential homes in Bury St. Edmunds next year. If anybody feels that they would like to join in please don’t hesitate to contact me. Fiona Till. Thank you very much indeed. greenfingers@buryinbloom.org.uk

Bury in Bloom is also also focussing on the very popular Certificates of Merit event . Judges briefing is on June 26th with the Certificates starting to be awarded a few days after Hidden Gardens and being completed by sunset on Sunday July 16th. The scoring system was revised last year to ensure more sustainable and wildlife friendly gardens would not lose out. Scoring system is on the Bury in Bloom website under Certificates of Merit. This year over 20,000 gardens will be viewed by teams of volunteer judges. This has proved to be excellent timing as Anglia in Bloom have just confirmed they will be visiting Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday July 18th .

Anglia in Bloom

In preparation for Anglia in Bloom judging , Bury in Bloom would really appreciate any help in removing weeds or litter around the town – even if this is just on a section of pathway outside of your own home. Every little helps!

Enjoy your gardening and thank you for supporting Bury in Bloom.

Bury St. Edmunds Model Railway Club – Little People

Technology has big influence today, and in the world of model railways it is no different. As we build our layouts the addition of miniature figures brings life to the scenes. For many years we relied on the skill of an artist to carve a figure which was then used as a master to cast a replica in metal or mold in plastic, but not anymore. Today we use 3D printing as a medium, but what is it?

This process scans a real person into a computer by walking around them with a handheld scanner. That person can dress up in any costume, from any period and in any pose required. Once the data has been collected, it is processed and then fed into a 3D printer. This creates the most precise and detailed resin figure which can be printed to any scale by simply changing the computers parameters.

For instance, the figures in the cab of this engine are O gauge, which makes them about 40mm tall. The driver is pouring tea, whilst the fireman is topping up the coal in the firebox.

Now, due to modern technology, you can stand on the footplate your own model loco!
