Stowmarket Christmas Tree Festival
With the festive period in full swing, we are incredibly fortunate to have a number of local attractions for people to visit, be it with their friends or family. One of my favourites is the amazing Stowmarket Christmas Tree Festival.
The event, now in its 14th year, has grown year after year and is expected to attract over 35,000 visitors. It really is a must visit winter attraction. Each of the three locations, Stowmarket Parish Church, the town library and Abbots Hall in the Museum of East Anglian Life, will have their own distinct themes. The variety of the displays is what makes this such an exciting event every year.
The number and variety of trees on display shows that the community has really got behind this event. From schools to charities, organisations and groups, it seems everyone is taking part! The community spirit we have is something we should hold dear. I am sure it will leave visitors with a wonderful impression and a desire to return.
A particularly thoughtful touch is the dedicated tree in Stowmarket Parish Church for people to hang prayers or the names of loved ones who are no longer with us. Christmas is about spending time with family first and foremost and this epitomises that perfectly.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the organisers of the festival and all those who have taken part. I look forward to coming to see the fruits of your labours over the festive period, as I have for the past four years. Nothing compares to seeing it in person, I really feel like Christmas is getting close when I walk into the church and see those twinkling lights. I still struggle to beat the quality of the mince pies baked for the festival!
All that remains is for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year!
