Sawbridgeworth May Fayre
Sunday the 5th of May 2019 marks the date for the next May Fayre! This is remarkable because with morale behind the event at an all-time low it looked as though this 400-year-old event may end up being cancelled. The SVS who had worked tirelessly for the past 15 years in arranging this popular family day out, decided they could no longer run it.
So, with the power of social media behind them the Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall Trust took to recruiting a new committee to take over, roll on a few months and this is what we have for you;
Fair green will have a new lay out focussing on the main stage in the centre, straw bales will adorn the middle area, allowing a comfortable watching experience and round the edge we will have 40 plus stalls of games (provided by 5 local PTA’s), charities and some Artisan- arts and crafts and foods from local providers.
Don’t worry we will still have the fairground rides, they are moving this year to the Long stay carpark located down the Twitchell leading from Fair green. Donkey rides will be available along Duckling Lane and the Memorial hall will be open with the soft play, bouncy castles and a classic car show.
The church will have Exhibitions and children’s activities inside. In the Church House the W.I. will be running their cake competition and teas, coffees and cakes will be available from the Guides. In the Church Carpark we will have live displays of Wood Turning and Wool spinning. The local pubs are all involved too, not to mention performances by Youth Create, Diverse Choir and our local Morris Dancing Group. Young and old alike will have plenty to keep them occupied and everyone is invited to watch or take part in a big Tug of War which will feature in the day too.
We really want to build on Sawbridgeworth’s unique community spirit and make sure that the whole town is involved.
Thank you for everyone’s support so far and please keep an eye out on our event page on the Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall’s Facebook page.
