Support 4 Sight
Support 4 Sight, a charity based in Saffron Walden that supports blind and partially sighted people throughout Uttlesford and the surrounding areas has recently announced a restructuring and as a result has closed its Resource Centre in George Street, Saffron Walden.
However, the charity continues to offer Information, Advice and Guidance from its office premises at 8 Hill Street, Saffron Walden CB10 1JD (above Cheffins Estate Agency) as well as having a range of everyday living aids and equipment on display there, people are welcome to visit by making a prior appointment.
Other services that are continuing unaffected are coffee mornings in Saffron Walden at the Bowls Club on the last Tuesday of every month and in Great Dunmow on the 2nd Thursday of every month at Banks Court. Additionally, the befriending service, weekly production and distribution of the Uttlesford Talking News and the hospital desk in the sight clinic at Saffron Walden Community Hospital are unaffected by the change.
Gary Hyams CEO of the charity has said “Our intention is to ensure that our service users and beneficiaries are affected as little as possible by the changes in the short term we have been forced to make due to our financial constraints and indeed will hopefully see an improvement in our service to them over a period of time, as we look to carry out more visits in peoples homes for those people who have difficulty in coming to us due to their mobility or lack of local transport. In 2019 we were awarded the Council of Voluntary Services Uttlesford “Making a Difference Award” as the Organisation Making Significant Contribution to the Lives of those Living in Uttlesford” we are very proud of having received this award and are certainly not looking to let our standards drop.
We will be looking to have pop-up displays of equipment, information and advice available at our coffee mornings, people are most welcome to drop in and meet us there. We are also investigating with both the district and county councils other opportunities which will allow our service users regularly at least one day a week to access equipment, advice, information and guidance within the local area at convenient accessible central locations. We will announce further details of these as soon as possible”.
