Felixstowe Citizens Advice

Felixstowe & District For everyone for 80 years!

On 4 September 1939 200 Citizens Advice Bureaux (CABs) opened their doors for the first time to help the civilian population understand the restrictions that war would bring. The Felixstowe bureau opened as an independent service in 1984 so we are also celebrating our 35th anniversary!  We continue to innovate and grow to match the needs of our clients and the requirements of an ever-changing society and legislation.

With our partners, Access Community Trust, we are preparing to launch a new social prescribing service within the Felixstowe area.  We plan to work within GP practices and the local hospital providing support to people who present with an issue, which if not addressed, may eventually result in a much bigger problem.

We are pleased to be supporting East Suffolk Council’s initiative to help end period poverty and the stigma attached to it.  Period poverty means not being able to access sanitary products usually due to financial costs.  Boxes known as “PP Boxes’ containing a range of individually wrapped sanitary products will be available in community locations such as cafes, food banks, sports centres and also Felixstowe Citizens Advice.  Those in need of sanitary products will be able to access these products, free of charge and without question.  Just look out for the ‘East Suffolk Period Poverty’ sticker in the windows of supporting locations.

Due to staffing the new developments in our service we now need to recruit some additional volunteer advisers.  Training to become an adviser takes six months and we expect advisers to be IT literate and able to commit to working for two sessions per week (two mornings, two afternoons or one whole day).  Further details can be obtained by calling into the office in Orwell Road or calling Jane London, Deputy Manager, on 0300 330 9016.

Please note our new telephone number 0300 330 9016.  If we receive your call during our opening hours we will endeavour to take your enquiry but if we are already busy with calls you will be redirected to the National Citizens Advice Adviceline Service.  However if you call this number outside our opening hours your call will be taken by the National Citizens Advice Adviceline Service. Our opening hours are 10.00am to 1.00pm Tuesday to Friday and 10.00am to 5.00pm on Mondays.
