Felixstowe Labour New

The Laydens in Langley Avenue

The Laydens serves what has to be the best value All Day Breakfast in Felixstowe! Have you visited The Laydens yet? It’s a Community Café at the top end of Langley Avenue, just off Grange Road. The Corey Tyler Foundation runs the café which is staffed by volunteers who go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Pop in 8 a.m.–5 p.m. any day for a hot or cold meal – or just relax with a leisurely cup of coffee.

Felixstowe Academy

Yet again Felixstowe Academy would not disclose its Summer 2015 GCSE results at a time when all other High Schools and Academies in the area were confident enough to declare their own. It may turn out that Felixstowe Academy is withholding really good news but meanwhile its reticence means that parents in the local community who want to support the Academy may find it difficult to do so.

Art on the Prom

Congratulations again to the organisers of Art on the Prom, and particularly to Mary and Stephen Wyatt, for another successful event. Thousands of people enjoyed strolling along our warm and sunny Prom where there was a wide variety of art for sale, as well as activities for children. This is Felixstowe at its best.

Sign posts in Felixstowe?

Visitors to Felixstowe still have a problem finding Tourist Information at Felixstowe library as directional signage is very limited indeed – even outside the Library itself. Yet directions to the former Magistrates’ Court in the Town Hall which closed some 20 years ago is still in place in Wolsey Gardens and on the Prom! There is no-one available to discuss tourist information there on Saturdays and Sundays – our busiest visitors’ days.

Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II became the longest serving British monarch on 9 September, beating the previous record of Queen Victoria. However, there appears to be nothing in the Town to commemorate the Queen’s Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees. Would it be appropriate to rename the newly renovated Spa Gardens as the Queen Elizabeth II Seafront Gardens?

Felixstowe Pier

Work on the new pier will not now start for at least another year! And the building will be even smaller than previously agreed.
