THE STORY OF BEER AND BREWING, AND PUBS IN SUFFOLK
Nigel Smith, area organiser of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), Editor of the local CAMRA magazine, and creator of a local pubs database presents:
THE STORY OF BEER AND BREWING IN SUFFOLK – with a look at Pubs across the County.
Nigel considers the development of beer and brewing in Suffolk over 600 years — from humble origins to the rise of many small eighteenth and nineteenth century commercial brewers, with examples of the more successful local brewers and the importance of their links to maltings, railways and tied houses. The loss of local brewing heritage and craft brewing industry during the early/mid-twentieth century, and revival of local commercial brewing over the past forty years will be explored. The emergence of the free online The Suffolk Pub Guide (www.suffolk.camra.org.uk), with details of local pubs and historic details of over 340 local brewers is discussed, which could be very useful to Family History researchers.
