This opens for Sunday afternoons. opening on Sunday 7th April from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. and Sundays thereafter to October 27th 2024.
You can explore the fascinating history of an airfield which opened in 1917 (The Royal Flying Corps), to the RAF formed in April 1918…, and eventually closed in 1962.
So it was involved in two World Wars… It was the prime military and civilian aircraft testing establishment between those wars. Following its time as Fighter station in World War 2 (with both British AND American fighters operating), Aircraft testing and development continued into the Jet Age – till its closure in 1963. It’s Sunday afternoon openings start on Sunday 7th April – and thereafter on Sunday afternoons until Sunday 17th October. These are open from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30p.m.
