Dave Jackson Trio live at South Mill Arts
Local musician Dave Jackson and his trio are to bring back local live music and launch their new album with a concert at South Mill Arts Centre, Bishop’s Stortford, on Saturday 5th June.
In 2011, Dave Jackson’s first album ‘DJB’ made ‘Get Ready to Rock’s’ top five albums of that year, the title track being nominated for a ‘British Blues Award’ (Best Blues Song). His show at London’s legendary ‘100 Club’ that same year made ‘Get Ready to Rock’s’ top five live performances. Festival appearances at ‘Cambridge Rock Festival’, ‘The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival’ in Colne and ‘Blues in the City festival’, Chelmsford, were amongst others.
All seemed to be going well when disaster struck and Dave suffered an injury that left him unable to play guitar. Always looking for the positives in life, Dave has revisited his roots and is drawing on his experiences of traveling the world playing piano from ‘New Orleans’ to ‘Cape Town’, ‘Rio’ to ‘Brisbane’ and everywhere in between. It was on these travels that he met his lifelong best friend, partner and soul mate, Janet Jackson.
The third member of the trio, Costa Fafalios, was introduced through Rob Aitken from Gig Gear in Harlow. Rob organises the music stage at the Hatfield Heath summer ‘Hatfest’.
Their last concert at South Mill Arts in September 2020 was an outdoor affair, again due to current circumstances, and was quickly ‘sold out’. The audience were treated to cool retro jazzy blues with new arrangements of jazz and blues standards, together with the trio’s own original material.
Their show booked for 20th January this year had to be re-scheduled due to lockdown though, in the interim, they have been busy finishing their new album. They are looking forward to launching the album at The South Mill Arts Centre on Saturday 5th June.
In their own words “In our new album, we have tried our best to capture the magic of that beautiful sunny afternoon where we played to a capacity audience basking in the lovely weather as the music drifted over the gardens”.
All things being well, the concert will be an outside event and will be free entry, although you will need to pre-book due to social distancing protocols.
Perhaps if there are any fellow ‘jazzers’ out there, it might be an opportunity to introduce yourselves.
Full details of the show and how to purchase the album will be published soon on: www.southmillarts.co.uk
