Pishiobury Park in Sawbridgeworth has been awarded a ‘Heritage Discovery’ grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund

The grant will support a Community Archaeology Project in partnership with East Herts Council, the Friends of Pishiobury Park and Hertfordshire County Council’s Countryside and Rights of Way Service. Extending the popular Osier Beds boardwalk, tree planting, installation of a disabled parking bay, and an interpretation refresh will also be funded by this project.

Over the next two years, professional archaeologists from LP Archaeology and volunteers from the local community will investigate the cultural history of Pishiobury Park through researching historic documents, geophysics surveys, and archaeological digs. The project will build on the work of the Friends of Pishiobury Park who uncovered 18th and 19th century finds in previous digs.

The results of the community archaeology project will be displayed in new interpretation, and will help to guide the management of the site, ensuring heritage features are protected.

We will be seeking volunteers to help make this project a success! There will be opportunities in 2020 to participate in community digs and to receive skills training from professional archaeologists.
