SUMMARY:The Work of the World Land Trust
DESCRIPTION:Anyone living in the Ipswich area will have a chance to find out more about a Suffolk-based charity which helps local communities establish nature reserves in some of the most wildlife-rich regions in the world next week.\nThe Ipswich Group of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust are hosting a very special speaker – Dan Bradbury from the World Land Trust.\nDan will outline how the World Land Trust (WLT) started out in 1989 with a simple premise – supporters could donate funds to buy an acre of threatened habitat in countries like Belize. From small beginnings, this Suffolk based charity has now purchased over 2 million acres of land.  Once purchased the ownership and management of the land is handed over to local communities to care for it to sustainably benefit the indigenous wildlife and the people of the area.\nDan will explain how the work of the WLT has helped protect species ranging from the orangutan to owls. As well as buying land, the trust helps local organisations with replanting forests and encouraging natural regeneration – something that not only benefits wildlife but also helps lock in carbon so helping fight climate change.\n
