Fifty Air Cadets and staff from Felixstowe, Ipswich and Woodbridge ATC Squadrons recently took part in an adventure training week in the Highlands of Scotland. From their base in the Cairngorm Mountains near Aviemore, the cadets embarked on four days of hill walking which finished in a successful day scaling Ben Nevis the UK’s highest peak. Other days during the week were spent on different activities such as canoeing, white water rafting and mountain biking. Cdt Cpl Richard Spindley from Woodbridge said “it was really a great week with loads of activities”, “it was also nice to be with other cadets from other Squadrons”, “we worked very well together”. Organiser Flt Lt Nick Castle was pleased with the effort of the cadets from the three squadrons, “we took home some very tired cadets which is a good indicator of a very successful camp”. Staff would also like to thank John Grose Ford for again supplying a vehicle for this year’s trip to Scotland. Read more

An important influence on the Council’s thinking has been the Secretary of State’s dismissal in September of the appeal by Mersea Homes. This followed the Council’s refusal of planning permission for 1,085 dwellings at the Ipswich Northern Fringe. The Secretary of State said a proper and comprehensive planning approach to development at the Northern Fringe, as set out in the draft Core Strategy, was important.
