Mayor’s Column
January 20, 2011 by flyeronline · Leave a Comment
Last month the snow, ice and freezing conditions hit us all and I know that many of our local residents and local businesses were affected by this. But I’m pleased to say that Ipswich life continued and we didn’t let a little snow stop us!
I was delighted to officially launch the “What’s on Winter” WOW event on the Cornhill at the beginning of December. And what a WOW it was too!. It is not every day you get a reindeer eating out your hand. His name was Matti and he was just beautiful. The Suffolk Soul Singers also took part and by golly they were very good indeed. One young man came up to me and said that Ipswich, musically, is a very good place to be. I agree wholeheartedly with this. That afternoon I was at the WI Carol Concert at St Peters at the Waterfront Church where the Ipswich Hospital Band were playing, and later that evening I attended a Songs of Praise for the Tree Festival at St Mary Le Tower Church in Tower Street. Three very different styles of music in one day and all very enjoyable.
One of the most interesting Interesting openings for a Mayor was when I officially opened the new composting toilet at Orwell Country Park. I do have to say that I was greeted by a very happy group of people – I just hope they had not been waiting too long to use the new facilities!
