Get your skates on for festive fun in Felixstowe

December 17, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Following the many different resort activities Suffolk Coastal has provided this year, along comes an exciting eco skating rink which will be coming to Felixstowe to bring the year to a festive end.

A synthetic ice rink will be at Ocean Boulevard Amusement along Sea Road in Felixstowe from Monday, December 20 to Friday, December 24, open 10am to 5pm and closing at 4pm on Christmas Eve.

“Ice skating is the perfect way to warm up during the cold weather and is a great way to get into the festive mood,” said Cllr Doreen Savage, Cabinet Member for Customers and Partners.

Tickets can be bought in advance from Felixstowe Tourist Information Centre (TIC) for a reduced price of £4 for adults and £2 for children or a family ticket for two adults and two children for £10. Tickets bought on the day at the ice rink will cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. Children under the age of 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult.

“The skating rink is in a great location overlooking the picturesque coastline and is only going to be in the resort for a short time so I would encourage residents and visitors to make the most of it while they can.

“Ice skating is an activity that people of all ages enjoy and is a great way of keeping active while enjoying the Christmas festivities. Some residents may not have had the chance to give it a go before and this is the perfect opportunity to try their hand at emulating some of their favourite skating stars and to try something new,” added Cllr Savage.

Suitable clothing is recommended including long sleeves, covered legs and gloves, in case of any falls. Skate hire is included in the ticket price.

“We have been working hard over the past year to ensure that exciting events and activities are brought to the resort of Felixstowe and I hope that residents and visitors will enjoy getting into the festive spirit by trying out the ice rink,” added Cllr Savage.

Throughout the year the Council has supported the return of donkey rides to the seafront, the introduction of Segways, the road train, beach safety wristbands, the reopening of the Cliff Top Café, falconry displays and a brass band performance. Felixstowe was also awarded Recommended Status by the Marine Conservation Society’s Good Beach Guide.

To find out more about the ice skating rink or to buy tickets in advance residents can contact Felixstowe Tourist Information Centre on 01394 276770, email ftic@suffolkcoastal.gov.uk or visit them at 91 Undercliff Road West, Felixstowe IP11 2AF.
