Ipswich growth figures under the spotlight

Ipswich people have another opportunity to have their say on changes that have been made to the town’s long-term planning blueprint.
Earlier this year the Council submitted the Core Strategy plan to the Government for public examination. 
Public hearings about the Core Strategy were about to start, under the auspices of an independent Inspector, when the new Government announced in June the abolition of regional strategies. One of those regional strategies was the East of England Plan, which set out the amount of growth that Ipswich should take up to 2021.
The Inspector and the Council agreed to suspend the examination into the plan until January 2011, to allow time for the Council to consider whether to change the Core Strategy. 
An important influence on the Council’s thinking has been the Secretary of State’s dismissal in September of the appeal by Mersea Homes. This followed the Council’s refusal of planning permission for 1,085 dwellings at the Ipswich Northern Fringe.  The Secretary of State said a proper and comprehensive planning approach to development at the Northern Fringe, as set out in the draft Core Strategy, was important.
